Derek made a movie!

And it's immensely fantastic!!! Special exclusive screening in Nick's videogames class this morning, and while the auteur himself was bashfully absent (hiding in his pod, no doubt, with Burns-style steepled fingers and a cackle in his throat), laura and presto and I made up his entourage and ushered his success onto the big screen. this is the same guy who has a comic in Tim's 242 coursepack this year... soon, the MIT torch will be passed into his karate-chopping hands... he even uses words like "4th wall" and "technospehere" in regular conversation... all hale.

In addition to Noon's onscreen epiphany, Woodward spent a frightfully delightful evening (with select guests - Sara, Scott, and D) watching the best of the 1955 thriller movie canon - "Night of the Hunter"... read about it here ... as Scott says, it's a "really fucked up To Kill A Mockingbird," and probably the first time I've ever seen a child under 5 who isn't all that cute. While we expected to spend most of the time clinging to the upholstery for comfort against the terror of a Garber-recommended Halloween flick, we ended up laughing until wine came out our noses (figuratively). Even a mysterious doorbell ring didn't raise the hair on our necks. Tomorrow night, the movie train continues with the Shining... followed by bars... and Jen is in town... a beautiful combination.

pssst - birthday plans are in the works (for who, you ask??? it's a surprise!) .... but it means party at woodward the weekend of the 12th... bronwyn & adam, you are expected in attendance... we've never partied with married people before... it will be a sociological experiment... and dawson is basically the same age as you, so you won't feel out of place, promise.

double psssst - sara & i went on an adventure to the backyard pumpkin patch today, and Lo! a pumpkin was plucked! it now rests in a place on honour on the woodward coffee table. That makes two little orange things in this house that I love!
